Abstract

In Africa, women have long been dominated and oppressed by men. He relied on traditional conventions to maintain his dominance. However, today the african woman is becoming increasingly aware of her condition of oppressed individual and claims her rights, her worth, and her place in the society. It is from this perspective that feminists, like the Beninese writer Adélaïde Fassinou, criticize traditional conventions that encourage any form of injustice towards women. The objective of this article, based on the short story titled « Le Boutton Bis » and excerpted from the collection titled Toute une vie ne suffirait pas pour en parler by Fassinou was, first, to analyse the claims of african women as presented in « Le Boutton Bis » and then to reveal the different strategies used by women to express these claims and, above all, to make their voices heard in a male dominated world. Keywords: Claims, strategies, oppression, feminism, african woman.
